Consumers don’t mind sacrificing their sleep to shop in the wee hours

PCA Predict has found that during the weekend, over three-fifths (61%) of all ecommerce web traffic is generated at 3am in the morning. And out of total traffic, mobile claims a high share (57%-61%). However, when it comes to the week, mobile gains its biggest chunk of traffic between 12 midnight and 2am, or between 4am and 6am. When in office, desktops become the preferred online shopping medium for consumers. Data from PCA Predict shows that 60% of all website traffic between 9am and 4pm, with most traffic at lunchtime, between 11am and 2pm originates from desktops.

According to Chris Harle, PCA Predict chief operating officer, “With UK consumers shopping so early on their mobiles at weekends they are probably quite tired, meaning it’s more likely they’ll make a mistake when manually entering their delivery details from their smartphone. Despite the huge popularity of mobile shopping among consumers, it still suffers from the issue of small screens making it sometimes quite challenging for people to input information correctly.” Hence, mobile commerce players should concentrate on making their checkout process as simple as possible.
